Plot summary
Rohan, seventeen, is expelled from Bishop Cotton, a boarding school in Shimla, when a warden catches him and three friends watching an adult film off campus at night. He goes back to Jamshedpur, where his father, Bhairav Singh, owns a metalworking factory, and where a six-year-old half-brother, Arjun, lives; Arjun had not known Rohan existed. Bhairav lays down the routine: a run every morning that finishes with a race between them, shifts at the factory, then engineering classes at the local university, with mockery and blows whenever the boy disappoints him. A writer's life is what Rohan wants, and his uncle Jimmy encourages the ambition, while Bhairav refuses to allow it.
