Plot summary
Work on the documentary began in 2009 and lasted five years, timed to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The filmmakers sifted through more than one hundred hours of interviews to decide which of them they could use in the finished film. The story they tell opens in the spring of 1984, when a comic book about mutant turtles trained as ninjas appeared in shops, too big for the racks, and copies sold out again and again. People who worked on the property over the years describe how that comic book grew into a franchise.
