Plot summary
First Sergeant Clovis Hook leads a cavalry attack on an Apache village, burning it and rounding up the women and children. Among the prisoners is Cora Sutliff, a silent white woman seized nine years before while traveling to her husband, the rancher Fred. Her son Quito was fathered by the Apache chief Nanchez, who is captured with the band. Hook is ordered to escort Cora and Quito to Fred. Nanchez escapes custody and gathers warriors.
