Plot summary
Pierrot, Mimile and Antoine are childhood friends of about seventy who have known each other since the 1960s and have stayed close across a lifetime of differences. The three meet again at the funeral of Lucette, Antoine's wife. There Antoine comes across an old letter, gives his friends no explanation, and sets off on the road to Tuscany on his own. Pierrot and Mimile decide to go after him, and Sophie, Antoine's granddaughter, travels with them although she is heavily pregnant and close to her due date. The pair hope to reach their friend before he carries out a crime of passion over an affair half a century old.
