Plot summary

Fanny has a comfortable and settled life in Paris with her husband Jean. They have no children, both are fulfilled at work, and their apartment is one of the city's fine addresses. Jean's business makes already wealthy clients wealthier, a trade his wife has begun to quietly regard with doubt. At a chance meeting she crosses paths with Alain Aubert, a high school classmate who has become a writer and who tells her plainly that he has always had feelings for her. The two begin meeting for lunch without telling Jean, who is possessive, and the revived friendship turns into an affair.
