Plot summary
In 1945 Helsinki, the war's end brings painter Tove Jansson a new sense of freedom in her art and her life. Painting is the career she wants, yet the Moomin stories she made up for frightened children in bomb shelters take on a life of their own and bring her international fame. The years that follow, from the end of the Second World War into the mid-1950s, also hold her romantic ties to the politician Atos Wirtanen and the theater director Vivica Bandler. She works as a painter and illustrator while the Moomin books are created and published, carrying her name far beyond Finland.
