Plot summary
Zara is brought from Russia to Tallinn, the Estonian capital, on the promise of work at a hotel, and is held there by human traffickers who force her to have sex with their clients. Beaten and raped, she escapes and reaches the isolated house of an older woman, Aliide, who gives her shelter. Aliide's own history reaches back to the Stalin era, when the people of her hometown were deported to Siberia. The two survivors, wary of each other, try to work out what the other wants, while the story moves between Aliide's youth during the Soviet occupation and the Estonia of 1992.
