Plot summary
After serving his country in World War II, the decorated officer Touko Laaksonen comes home to Finland. Peacetime Helsinki proves just as distressing as the war. Homosexual men there are persecuted, and the men around him are pressed to marry women and have children. Touko takes refuge in his drawing. He pictures muscular men, free of inhibitions, and signs the work Tom of Finland. His sister Kaija objects to the art, and so does much of Finnish society.
