Plot summary
Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky are officially a couple. On their first date they have dinner and release a paper lantern carrying their initials, vowing not to hurt each other. John Ambrose McClaren, who once received one of Lara Jean's letters, writes back, and she tells Peter she wants to answer him. Peter hopes Lara Jean will choose the same school volunteer program that he and his lacrosse team picked, but she signs up at Belleview Retirement Home, following her older sister Margot. There she meets Stormy, an eccentric resident, and finds that John Ambrose volunteers there too. They talk about the letter she wrote him years ago, and Lara Jean cannot stop comparing herself with Gen, Peter's ex-girlfriend.
