Plot summary
Ricky, 23, is deemed cured and released from a psychiatric hospital, where he had been the lover of its director. An orphan, free and alone, he wants a normal life with Marina Osorio, an actress and recovering addict he once slept with during an escape from the asylum. Marina is shooting The Midnight Phantom, a horror film, for Máximo Espejo, an old director left in a wheelchair by a stroke. Ricky comes to the set and steals things, among them the keys to her apartment. Marina fails to remember him and dismisses him. After the last scene he follows her home, forces his way in, gags her and ties her up. He says he captured her so that she would get to know him, fall in love, and marry him.

Tie Me Down! ended Almodóvar's partnership with his longtime star Carmen Maura in a rift that took years to heal; at 44, Maura was too old for the lead, which went to Victoria Abril, whom he had earlier considered for roles in What Have I Done to Deserve This? (1984) and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988).
