Plot summary

Bill Nordheim has brought his family to Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, to the ancestral farm he has dreamed of returning to. His wife Carol, the children's stepmother, keeps a cheerful face for the family, while Nora, the teenage daughter, is angry at having left her friends behind. Bill is delighted by the adventure and barely notices the obstacles. Lukas, the younger son, comes across a strange creature in the barn: an elf. A local man tells him an old legend and three rules that humans must follow around barn elves, banning bright lights, modern changes and loud noises. Lukas tries to explain the warnings to his family.
