Theaters of War (2022) on Netflix

Plot summary

Thousands of films and television programs have been subject to Pentagon and CIA review, according to a newly released trove of internal government records. The records describe the Pentagon and the CIA pushing official narratives while scrubbing scripts of war crimes, torture, assassinations, coups, racism and sexual assault. A media professor sets out across the country to talk with fellow researchers, veterans, public relations insiders and producers willing to speak about it. The records also name productions from The Longest Day and Lone Survivor to Iron Man and the James Bond and Jack Ryan series. The documents have put the practice under new scrutiny and raised the question of how it flew under the radar for so long.
