The War (1994) on Netflix

Plot summary

Stephen Simmons, a Vietnam veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder, comes home to his family in Mississippi after treatment at a mental hospital. He had lost three jobs because of nightmares about the war. He takes a janitor's job at a grammar school and loses it within days under a law barring people who have spent time in a mental hospital from working near children. The family needs money, so he keeps looking, finding work picking potatoes and befriending Moe Henry. His twins, Stu and Lidia, and their friends build a tree house in a tree near their home, arguing over who does the building and who may use it. The Lipnicki family next door, known for bullying, hold a grudge against the Simmons children.
