Plot summary

Alexandre, a television reporter, comes to the Greek-Albanian border with a Greek colonel, who shows him a bridge divided by a line between the two countries and explains the border town where thousands of refugees wait for the papers that would let them move on. Alexandre wanders the riverfront market, where he sees an old man he takes to be a famous Greek politician who disappeared without explanation and now seems to live here as an anonymous refugee. He rejoins his crew at a local hotel, then meets the politician's wife, who tells him about her husband's earlier disappearance, after he wrote a controversial book, and his return as another man. She gives Alexandre an audiotape.
