Biography

Mihalis Giannatos was a Greek actor who worked in film, television and theater for decades after training at Konstantinos Demopoulos' school of drama. Born in Constantinople, he left Turkey for Greece in 1964 and made his professional debut in Georgios Zervoulakos' film Oi stigmatismenoi in 1966, having already appeared on stage as a student in Capetan Michalis alongside Manos Katrakis. Theodoros Angelopoulos called on him regularly after casting him in Megalexandros in 1981. Fluent in five languages, Giannatos found work in international productions including Midnight Express, Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Munich, and appeared in close to 100 films, series and plays. His other credits included A Touch of Spice and the European co-production Le Dernier Seigneur des Balkans.

Early training
Giannatos studied at Konstantinos Demopoulos' school of drama and made his professional debut in Georgios Zervoulakos' 1966 film Oi stigmatismenoi.
First role
While he was still a student, Giannatos took part in the theatrical play Capetan Michalis, appearing next to Manos Katrakis.
Big break
After Megalexandros in 1981, Theodoros Angelopoulos kept calling Giannatos to act in his films, making him a regular in the director's work.
