Sam Edwards

Biography

Sam Edwards was an American actor whose career ranged across radio, film, television and voice work. Born in Macon in 1915, he came from a show business family and first performed as a baby in his mother's arms. During the 1930s he was heard in the serials Adventures of Sonny and Buddy and The Edwards Family, and he was an early member of the radio soap opera One Man's Family. His first major screen role came as Chuck Ramsey in the serial Captain Midnight, and he supplied the adult voice of Thumper in Bambi (1942). He had significant parts in Twelve O'Clock High (1949) and Operation Pacific (1951) and appeared in Gang Busters (1955). He also voiced Tigger, Owl and the Heffalumps on Disney Winnie the Pooh records. He was best known on television for playing the banker Bill Anderson in Little House on the Prairie and had many roles on Dragnet and Gunsmoke. He died in 2004.
