Plot summary

A charismatic dealer in precious stones, Ludovico Vicedomini is comfortable in Europe and the Middle East. He is persuasive and well-liked, and this hides what he and his business partner Shahid are preparing: a large-scale terrorist attack. In Turkey, Ludovico meets Leda and Alceo, a married couple on holiday. Leda heads public relations at a large company. Alceo teaches at the Sapienza University and studies the history of terrorist movements; he uses a wheelchair, having lost his legs in the 1998 attack on the American embassy in Nairobi. The couple has no idea what Ludovico and his partner are doing around them. Shahid is preparing an attack along the English Channel.
