Plot summary
Yuji Akahoshi, a television director, takes a call from Risako Kano, an old friend from high school. She tells him that a colleague of hers at a cosmetics company has been stabbed and burned. Akahoshi decides to build a segment for his television show around the case, and he starts interviewing the people who knew the dead woman. She is Noriko Miki, and Kano worked alongside her. Through those interviews he learns that a second employee at the company, Miki Shirono, went missing the same night, and that she was seen hurrying toward the train station soon after Noriko Miki died.
