Plot summary

Koharu Fukuura works at a child welfare office in Japan and does the job well. In a single night she is plunged into despair: her family and her home are stricken, and the man she is with is unfaithful with other women, among them a co-worker of his. She meets Daigo Izumisawa, a doctor in private practice who is raising his eight-year-old daughter, Hikari, on his own. Daigo wants to love her and to marry her, and Koharu resolves to build a happy household for the three of them, though that household does not turn out the way she expects.
