Plot summary
A lonely kindergarten teacher discovers a secret well in the basement of her house, and soon finds herself being followed by a murderous Satanic cult.
A spree of grisly murders is perpetrated in Frankfurt by a group of Satan worshippers. A school teacher almost runs over an old man with a box and takes him in. It's no accident that the old man has come into her life, and it quickly becomes apparent that he has plans for her, plans that involve a permanent future with the Satanic cult.

- Director Michele Soavi built the film from concepts in two unproduced scripts he had developed for producers Mario and Vittorio Cecchi Gori, The Well and Catacombs, the latter of which he co-wrote with Gianni Romoli.
- Kelly Curtis, who was not a fan of horror, agreed to star because she liked the psychological style of Soavi's Stage Fright and Argento's Suspiria, and saw the film as more of an Alice in Wonderland fantasy.
