Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Special effects expert Tom Savini created the film's central murder weapon, which the crew nicknamed the "Noose-o-Matic." Savini's elaborate gore effects were scrapped when Argento decided to minimize his trademark gore.
- Trauma was Italian director Dario Argento's first feature-length American production, following his 1990 collaboration with George A. Romero on Two Evil Eyes.
- Dario Argento's regular rock collaborators Goblin were suggested to write and perform the score, but the American producers turned them down, wanting something friendlier to US audiences, so Pino Donaggio's orchestral score was used.
- The British Board of Film Classification cut the UK video release by six seconds, trimming two shots of wire slicing into the necks of Linda and Adriana; the cuts were waived in 2002.
- Asia Argento, who was 17 during filming, played a character inspired by her half-sister, Daria Nicolodi's daughter from an earlier marriage, who suffered from anorexia.
- Tom Savini was set to appear in a pre-credits sequence that was scrapped, in which his character was decapitated in an accident that would trigger the killer's psychosis.
