Plot summary
Slimane Beji, an immigrant from the Maghreb in his sixties, has worked at a shipyard in Sete and lives in the Hotel de l'Orient, which is run by his partner Latifa. He is the divorced head of a large Franco-Arabic family; his ex-wife Souad cooks a Sunday couscous with fish for their sons, daughters and grandchildren. As he is losing his job at the shipyard, Rym, Latifa's twenty-year-old daughter, who regards him as a father, encourages his ambition: to convert a dilapidated boat into a restaurant serving that family couscous, a legacy for them all. With Rym's help he applies for the licenses and loans the project requires.
