Plot summary
Five convicts are gathered in Cairo for a mission behind enemy lines. Roberto Rocca is an Italian criminal mastermind, Terence Scanlon handles explosives and belongs to the Irish Republican Army, Simon Fell is a forger, John Durrell an assassin, and Jean Saval a thief and impersonator. Pardons are promised if they survive the attempt to bring an Italian general who backs the Allies out of a fortress in German-occupied Yugoslavia. Major Richard Mace commands the group and carries guilt from an earlier operation he had handed to his brother and from his own delay in getting him out. Partisans under Marko guide the men as they split up to enter Dubrovnik.

- Stewart Granger resented "stooping" to a B film and worried his part was less prominent than his co-stars', so Roger Corman rewrote it on the spot to give Granger more lines than Edd Byrnes.
