Plot summary
At an American base in South Korea, word comes that a U.S. submarine has been crippled in international waters close to North Korea. Four Navy SEALs dive to the vessel, bring its captain out and set charges. A North Korean helicopter catches their raft as the explosives go off, and the men are held in a fortress. Their children on the base watch television reports of the fathers' espionage trial. Max, an electronics whiz, hides a listening device in a conference room so that he, Shawn and Adrian can hear officials by radio. A rescue, code-named Operation Phoenix, is proposed, then dismissed by the Secretary of State, who will not risk trouble with North Korea and its allies. Shawn passes a tape to J.J. Merrill, whose father is also held, and J.J. suggests the teenagers carry out the mission themselves.
