- Tiffany Blechschmid's delicatessen, a Berlin corner shop, was rebuilt with its kitchen, dining room and a street crossing on the Marlene-Dietrich-Halle stage at Studio Babelsberg, where the film shot mainly from late June to early August 2011.
- The film adapts Paul Watzlawick's 1983 book, an Austrian psychologist's ironic anti-self-help guide that "recommends" ways to make your life unbearable; readers are meant to read it against the grain to cut their own unhappiness.
