Plot summary
Late 19th century Australia. Captain Stanley's police capture Charlie Burns and his younger brother Mikey, two members of a bushranger gang blamed for the raid on the Hopkins farm, in which a pregnant woman and her family were raped and killed. The eldest brother, Arthur, who leads the gang, is still free in the mountains. Stanley gives Charlie nine days to find and kill Arthur and promises freedom for both prisoners if he succeeds; otherwise Mikey will be executed. Charlie leaves Mikey in custody and rides out. Sergeant Lawrence objects to the bargain and spreads word of it among the other policemen. In a cantina, Charlie meets the drunken old bounty hunter Jellon Lamb, who is also after the Burns brothers.
