Plot summary

Élisabeth is picked up on a country road at night and brought to a stranger's apartment in Paris. A second woman, naked, calls out after her as the car leaves. The man, Robert, learns that she cannot hold on to anything for more than a few minutes, not even his name. She says people are after her but cannot say who they are. She has escaped from a clinic that houses patients whose memories and identities are falling apart after an environmental accident, and Dr. Francis wants her back there. When Robert goes to work the next morning, Francis comes to the apartment to persuade her to return.
