Plot summary
Every man the boys know turns them down when their baseball team needs a coach, and without a coach the team could be barred from the Little League championships. The boys are teenagers, obsessed with baseball and quick with wisecracks. A homeless drifter who will not speak wanders in from left field. They make him their coach and name him Jack Robinson, after the baseball legend Jackie Robinson. The team includes Beau, Malcolm, Bama, Peanut, J.C., Hooksy and Tino. He watches them play badly, and frustration pushes him into showing them how to improve.
