Plot summary
Logan Thibault is a US Marine on his third tour in Iraq. A day after a deadly battle he finds a photograph of a young woman on the ground, the words Keep Safe X on the back, and picks it up moments before a bomb destroys the spot where he had been sitting. He cannot find the photo's owner, and his squad comes to think of the woman as his guardian angel. Back in the States, Logan stays with his sister's family in Colorado, then sets out with his dog Zeus to find her, following a lighthouse in the picture to Louisiana. There he learns she was married to a local deputy sheriff, and finds Beth Green. She assumes he wants work, and her grandmother Ellie hires him at the family kennel.
