Plot summary
Kyle Johnson, fifteen, carries a lucky gold coin that brings him everything he wants, including a place as the best player on his basketball team. Heritage Day is near, and each question about the family's origins makes his mother and father, Kate and Bob, change the subject. He learns his father changed the surname Smith to Johnson. At an Irish festival with his best friend Russell Halloway, Kyle sees coins identical to his own, and during a step dancing act he cannot stop his feet. The next morning his mother confirms that the family is Irish, and his school day brings bad luck, including lost homework. A magnet in science class clings to his coin, and his lucky coin is gone.
