Plot summary

Aaron is a Jewish boy living with his parents on a farm, along with three animals: the donkey Samson, the lamb Baba and the camel Joshua. For his birthday he receives a drum, whose playing sets the animals dancing. One night bandits raid the farm and kill his mother and father. Aaron survives, scarred, and vows to hate all mankind. Ben Haramed notices his drumming and seizes him, adding him to a caravan of inept performers.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Little Drummer Boy (1968)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • A 1998 restoration by Golden Book Video/Sony Wonder was held up when the film's original 35mm negative went missing during a transfer of elements, according to Rankin/Bass historian Rick Goldschmidt. A 16mm print and an unreleased stereo soundtrack turned up, but the soundtrack was missing sound effects, so a scratch track by Paul Frees replaced a piece of narration in the final scene.
