Plot summary
Sousuke Aoyama is a college student, and the death of both his parents in a traffic accident is a loss he still suffers from. At an exhibition he meets Kozan Shinoda, a suibokuga artist, the kind of painter who works in ink wash. Kozan takes a surprising interest in the young man and accepts him as a disciple. Kozan's niece, Shinoda Chiaki, is dismissive of Sousuke and declares that she means to compete with him for the Kozan Award. Sousuke himself shows no interest in painting at first, yet the strokes he lays down gradually draw him in.
