Plot summary
Jessica Saunders is a CIA agent coming off a failed mission. Her new orders are to observe Dr. MacLean while working for him as a programmer, so she joins his laboratory and his research team. There she finds his experiments remarkable: MacLean has built a computer that can view the dreams of sleeping people. He also wants to determine whether an afterlife exists, and his method is to record the instant the soul departs a dying body. A boy with leukemia and a girl who is psychic take part in the work, and Saunders, there under cover, helps him.
