Plot summary
Early 20th century China. Wong Fei-hung, his father Wong Kei-ying and the servant Tso travel home to Canton from the Northeast. On the road, a clash with Fu Wen-chi, once a leading candidate in the Qing military examination, leaves the two men holding each other's boxes: Wong carries off the Imperial Seal, and Fu is left with the ginseng bought for a client. The Seal is among the Chinese artifacts the British consul is shipping to Britain. At home, Wong passes off a root from his father's bonsai as the client's ginseng, and his stepmother Ling lends her necklace to pay for a replacement. The consul's henchmen come hunting for the Seal, and when they snatch at Ling's bag, Wong drinks and uses drunken boxing on them until his father arrives and stops him.

SPOILER
For the 2000 American release, Dimension Films cut 35 seconds from the ending, in which Wong Fei-hung is left blind and mentally crippled from drinking industrial alcohol, because the distributor considered the scene to be in bad taste.- Drunken Master II was Jackie Chan's first traditional style martial arts film since Fearless Hyena Part II, released in 1983.
