Plot summary
In 1970s Yuma County, a traveling knife salesman stops at a remote filling station and diner where the pumps are dry and a fuel truck is expected soon. He hears on the radio that two robbers fled a Buckeye bank that morning in a green Ford Pinto. Charlotte, the waitress and wife of the local sheriff, serves him; he tells her he is heading to Carlsbad for his daughter Sarah's birthday. When Travis and Beau arrive in the same green Ford Pinto, the salesman recognizes it as the getaway car. Charlotte tries to phone her husband, but Beau cuts the phone cord. The robbers force Charlotte and the salesman at gunpoint to keep acting normal until the fuel truck arrives or someone with enough fuel stops.
