Plot summary

John Wright, once the area's celebrated Olympic wrestler, is a hometown hero whose life came apart through addiction and scandal. After his mother dies he comes back to a town that treats him as a cautionary tale. He reconnects with the high school wrestling program, whose longtime coach still sees something in him, while parents and school officials question his past. On the team are Scott Baker, a gifted, arrogant wrestler whose temper causes trouble in the locker room, and Michael Miller, a disciplined worker holding together a difficult life outside school. Michael supports several younger siblings in a household with little money and a mother who is seldom around.
