Plot summary
Xiao Ming Chang plays in his school band and is at odds with Matt O'Neil, the basketball team's star and a former friend. When Kristy joins the band, Chang is smitten, and Matt flirts with her too. At a house party, Chang's friends lock him in the basement; he gets out and confronts Matt, claims he can dunk, and falls into a swimming pool. At school he proposes a wager: the loser shaves his head and gives up something prized, Matt's Kobe Bryant jersey or Chang's first-edition Pokémon card. Kristy sees what the bet is really about and backs Chang anyway. His friend Bo trains him hard, and Chang finds Deandre Cooke, a YouTuber who films his own dunks, and becomes his protégé.
