Plot summary

Kate Logan is a rookie police officer in a Northern Ontario town. Benoit Gando, a French insurance agent, is there for a conference; he is married to a nuclear engineer and has an eleven-year-old daughter. Outside a convenience store, Kate takes him for a rapist. She tells him it was a mistake and sends him on his way. That night she turns up at his motel with a drink, and the two sleep together. In a later meeting she shows him how to grip and point her service pistol; it fires in his hand and the bullet ends up in the motel wall. Kate, afraid of losing her job, keeps him entangled in the affair and threatens to tell his wife about the night they spent together. Benoit wants to go to the police and say it was an accident.
