Plot summary
Adrien Williams leaves a mental institution, and Henry Thompson, the doctor who treated her, arranges work for her at a country club along the East Coast. There she enters a wealthy world and is drawn into a circle of rich teenagers summering in the area, led by Brittany Foster. Brittany shows her the pleasures of that life and introduces the others in the group, among them Matt Curtis, a tennis pro Brittany is drawn to. The friends keep remarking that Adrien resembles Sandra, Brittany's older sister, who moved away. Adrien is glad to be taken into Brittany's confidence, but Matt's attention toward her changes things, and Brittany's pleasant manner gives way to something harder.
