Plot summary

A woman who dreads being buried alive arranges for a telephone in her crypt, so that she can call home should she wake. She dies, and the line stays quiet. Then one day the phone in the crypt rings. Vivia Mandore, an heiress who thought herself free of her late mother-in-law's domination, engages Nelson Orion, an architect who works as a paranormal investigator by choice. The older woman, it appears, is set on keeping her hold over the family from beyond the grave.
