Plot summary
Anna Nigiotti in Michelucci is a lively, frivolous and sometimes embarrassing mother to Bruno and Valeria, and the beauty that makes her stand out in Livorno also unsettles her marriage to a Carabinieri non-commissioned officer. At the summer pageant of the city's most popular bathing establishment in 1971, she is called on stage and crowned most beautiful mother, and violent jealousy enters the household. The Michelucci family's upheaval follows the children as they grow: Bruno is embarrassed by his mother, leaves Livorno and settles in Milan as a high school teacher. He journeys back to his hometown to be at her side in her last days, and the episodes of their life together return to him in flashbacks.
