Plot summary
Dr. Jane Bowers works as a pediatrician and campaigns for women's liberation. Officer Jerry Frazer is a policeman whose manners run to putting ladies first. The two meet when both arrive to look at the same apartment in San Francisco, and they clash at once. Affordable places are scarce, and a mix-up with the landlord leaves them agreeing to pretend to be married and share the apartment, because their shifts never overlap. Jane tells Wyatt, her liberal lawyer fiancé, about the arrangement and says nothing to her father. Jerry hides it from Kitty, his girlfriend, who works as a Bunny at the Playboy Club.
