Plot summary
Six years after high school, police find the bodies of two friends Molly Hartley had been with the night before, and she is arrested. During questioning her voice deepens and she calls herself "we", so she is sent to a mental asylum for evaluation under Dr. Laurie Hawthorne. Father John Barrow is held in the same asylum after an exorcism he performed went wrong, leaving a fellow priest and a pregnant woman dead, and Chaplain Henry Davies tells him the Vatican has stripped him of his priesthood. Dr. Hawthorne reads Molly's old records and her account of the devil claiming her on her eighteenth birthday, then asks Barrow to carry out an exorcism, offering to sign his release papers in return.
