Plot summary
Nick suffers night terrors rooted in a murder he witnessed as a boy, and the Christmas Eve trip to his strangely deserted hometown that his fiancée Victoria insists on is not one he wants. Inside an antique shop, Victoria comes across an empty ledger that belonged to the toymaker, while Nick discovers an elf doll. The doll brands him with a supernatural sigil and flees, and he pockets a naughty list carrying his family's names, along with a warning about the doll's curse and its power to spare one name. Victoria spots a man shoveling snow where none has fallen. Driving to Nick's family's former house, the couple stops for a man in a car crash who answers incoherently, and the elf doll is already waiting for them there.
