Plot summary
A graduation trip to Thailand, paid for by Sara, brings her college friends Max, James, Adrienne and Greg to the cave her late father loved, The Devil's Mouth. On the cruise out, Max pushes for Sara to relocate to Los Angeles and give up the New York job. That night Sara is left in the water when the boat departs without her, and she is stung by jellyfish; Max refuses to take the blame before the two make up. The next day the group sets out with a local guide, Wat, who warns that a recent storm has flooded the cave and drawn marine life into it. Sara and Wat prefer the safer route, but the others choose the one Max proposes.

- Director Jeff Wadlow said the physically demanding scenes of rock climbing, diving, underwater work, breath holds and being dragged around on winches were all performed by the actors themselves.
- The script was initially set in Mexico, but the entire film was shot in Thailand, with director Jeff Wadlow rewriting the script to fit the new country.
- Principal photography took place in freshwater caves that are ordinarily used for training by rescue divers, as well as on two sound stages.
