Plot summary
Valdemar and his son Benjamin earn their living on the road with Circus Hope, moving from village to village in the Brazilian countryside, where Valdemar performs as the clown Puro Sangue and Benjamin as the clown Pangaré. Benjamin has no fixed address, no neighbors and no identity card, only a birth certificate. He thinks he is no longer funny, and he is tired of life on the road. What he wants is a place of his own, documents in his name, a steady job in a small town and a family. He leaves the circus to look for that, and meets various people along the way.
