Plot summary
Augusto Mendes wants the applause his mother Marta once drew as a stage performer in the 1950s. In 1980s Brazil he works in soft porn and soap operas until he is cast as Bingo, the clown host of a children's television show that becomes a hit. Lúcia directs the program, and the American producer Peter Olsen stands behind it. A clause in Augusto's contract forbids him from revealing who he is, so his fame stays anonymous even as children across the country know the clown. His own son Gabriel, who idolizes his father, watches him grow distant while Augusto chases recognition.
