Plot summary
Miguel works as a coyote, guiding people along the migrant route of gravel alleys, broken pavement and finally the river. The crossings are his whole life and his record is unblemished. Death is no stranger to him. His nickname is El Maldito, and on desert roads he keeps coming upon the dead and the dying. He listens to their confessions and carries out their last wishes. He lives alone, in a house marked by yellowed photographs and a life given to a single purpose. Then a bad wreck brings him to the roadside, and Elena, the only person to survive it, recognizes him.
