Plot summary
During the 1970s, actor Bing Russell starts an independent baseball club in Portland, Oregon. Named the Portland Mavericks, the team has no major league parent, which is unusual for the time. The Mavericks compete in the Class A-Short Season Northwest League from 1973 through 1977. No other club in the country plays without major league affiliation, and the arrangement disturbs the baseball establishment.
