Plot summary
Saravana Perumal runs a salt and iron business in Thoothukudi, and his rivals are Subbayya and his children Vellathurai and Sakunthala Devi of Tirunelveli. Saravanan's nephew and heir, Bharani Puthiran, has finished his degree and spends his days with irresponsible friends. Bhanumathi, a student at Bharani's old college, falls for him and follows him about. When Bharani finds out that Bhanu is Sakunthala Devi's daughter, he grows suspicious of her and keeps his distance. Bhanu travels to an island off the coast to see him, and the coast guards arrest the pair on a prostitution charge; local police free them because of Bharani's standing. A reporter hostile to Sakunthala Devi writes up the arrest, and Subbayya, blaming Saravanan, plans with Vellathurai to kill him.
